Strategy

In 2020, we launched our first Sustainability Strategy 2030. In this way, we are committed to adopting high operational standards, which are key to the growth of our business, our employees, our host communities, and our customers.

Our objective is to achieve consistent, high-quality, social, and environmental performance in all our operations, while contributing to the creation of a culture of sustainability that permeates society through proactive communication and transparency.

Through the implementation of our Sustainability Strategy, we support the 2030 Development Agenda and contribute to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Our commitment as a member of the United Nations Global Compact allows us to align, engage, and partner with our key stakeholders to create sustained mutual value.

We express this strategy in a model
of sustainability based on four pillars:

Our first pillar is at the heart of our business. Safety is our top priority. We have standards, processes, and tools integrated into our operating model to protect the health and safety of our people, our environment, and our communities.

We work under a Compliance and Integrity Management System, which ensures adherence to the best corporate practices, based on ISO-19600, that establishes the guidelines for regulatory compliance.

Maintaining and improving our profitability is also critical, as a profitable business can create sustained long-term value not only for shareholders, but also for communities, governments, and partners. We reinforce our commitment to the rights and well-being of our employees, the ethics and integrity of our business, and the development of our supply chain.

We acknowledge that our business is often the primary source of employment and livelihoods in the communities where we operate. Employment and job creation are central to our economic contribution in each of the states where we are present.

In the sum of our four business divisions we employ more than 6,000 people. We are an important employer in nine entities of the country: Campeche, Mexico City, Coahuila, Hidalgo, Nuevo León, Quintana Roo, San Luis Potosí, Tabasco and Veracruz.

We want to continue investing in the professional training of our employees. As part of the implementation of our sustainability strategy, we will seek partnerships to train and certify people in new skills, making them easily transferable, so that people can continue their professional development wherever they find it.

Finally, we believe that access to information about our business is fundamental to building trust with our stakeholders, so we are committed to regularly disclosing relevant information about how we conduct our business and other aspects of our sustainability performance.

Our second pillar focuses on the success of our communities.

We still strive to leave a positive and lasting legacy wherever we operate. We do this through a focus on sustainable economic development on a local and national level, seeking more holistic ways to contribute to society, expanding our strategic partnerships with non-governmental organizations, and the development arms of federal, state, and municipal governments.

We show leadership and innovation in fulfilling our purpose and continue to collaborate with stakeholders to create shared value in our activities.

By integrating our communities as a strategic pillar within our Sustainability Strategy, we seek to create a culture of social impact, working to minimize the negative impact of our operations and identifying business opportunities that allow us to fulfill our commitment to sustainable economic development, thus improving the lives and future of our communities.

Our social initiatives aim to create sustainable communities that are more inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable, contributing to the UN Global Compact’s Sustainable Development Goals and reinforcing our commitment to building a better future.

With the signing of the Global Compact in 2020, we started reviewing our approach to communities and community economic development. We want to focus on developing proactive relationships with our communities that allow us to identify actions based on their needs.

The third pillar has to do with our commitment to the planet

By signing the Global Compact, we acknowledge that climate change is a reality and its negative impact on the planet, our communities, and our business. We support the commitments of the Paris Agreement and the long-term goal of limiting the global average temperature increase to below 2°C.

We are committed to reducing the environmental impact of our activities, maintaining a focus on continuous improvement and innovation in the face of environmental challenges, thus reducing Protexa’s carbon footprint.

With the launch of our Sustainability Strategy 2030, the company begins its journey in the fight against climate change by moving towards the decarbonization of its activities in the four divisions. In 2020, we started defining the strategic objectives and 2030 goals for each of the divisions, which, together with their respective implementation plans, will allow us to move forward in meeting our goals.

Additionally, we complement our Sustainability Strategy with projects to offset those emissions that we cannot avoid, through reforestation programs and by emphasizing the development of green areas in our sustainable construction projects.

We are aware that water is a limited and non-renewable natural resource. Since 2010, we have invested in minimizing potable water consumption in our operations with the installation of water treatment plants that allow us to consume up to 98% recycled water.

The fourth pillar has to do with our commitment to society through the creation of shared value

We contribute to economic development through the materials we produce, the projects we develop, the services we offer, the local jobs we generate, as well as the innovations we bring to the market, aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

Through our project development practices, we aim to meet today’s needs for housing, work environments, and infrastructure in a sustainable manner. We believe that sustainable construction is a clear business case, responding in an innovative and sustainable way to the growing demand for building spaces.

Through our design and project planning processes in the Real Estate division, we evaluate the performance of materials on all scales and during all their cycles of use; we promote the use of renewable energy resources, encourage energy efficiency in our projects, as well as the responsible use of water and efficient materials in construction, operation, and maintenance processes.

Through our projects, we contribute to the community by offering innovative, energy-efficient spaces and improving the environment in which we live.

We comply with the highest ethical standards in business and industry practices in all phases of our projects; we promote sustainable living and working environments, implementing occupational health and safety standards in all of our projects and contributing to the sustainable economic development of Mexico.

Inclusive development of our supply chain is a key component of our business success. We want to focus on promoting efficiency, quality, sustainability, transparency, respect for human rights, non-discrimination, and equal opportunities with our suppliers (manufacturers and distributors) and subcontractors.
