Our sustainability strategy

We support the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and contribute to the United Nations SDGs.

Strategy

In 2020, we launched our 2030 Sustainability Strategy. We have committed to adopting high operating standards, key to the growth of our business, our collaborators, the communities where we operate and our clients.

Our goal is to achieve consistent, high-quality social and environmental performance in all our operations while contributing to the creation of a culture of sustainability that permeates society through proactive communication and transparency.

Through the implementation of our Sustainability Strategy, we support the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and contribute to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Our commitment as members of the United Nations Global Compact allows us to align, engage and partner with our key stakeholders to create sustained mutual value.

Our strategy is expressed in a sustainability model based on four pillars

The first pillar is fundamental: leading a safe, responsible and profitable business

Our first pillar is at the heart of our business. Safety is our top priority. We have standards, processes and tools built into our operating model to protect the health and safety of our people, our environment and our communities.

We work under a Compliance and Integrity Management System, which ensures adherence to the best corporate practices, based on ISO-19600, which offers guidelines to establish regulatory compliance.

Maintaining and improving our profitability is also critical. As a profitable business, we can create long-term, sustained value not only for shareholders but also for communities, governments and employees. We reinforce our commitment to the rights and well-being of our employees, the ethics and integrity of our business, and the development of our supply chain.

We recognize that our business is often the main source of employment and livelihood in the communities where we operate. Employment creation is essential for our economic contribution in each of the states where we have a presence.

In our four business divisions we employ more than 6 thousand people. We are an important employer in nine states of the country: Campeche, Mexico City, Coahuila, Hidalgo, Nuevo León, Quintana Roo, San Luis Potosí, Tabasco and Veracruz.

The employment opportunities we create are not limited to our own business, developing a responsible supply chain is very important to us. We believe that this is how economic development and prosperity are generated and sustained.

As part of the implementation of our sustainability strategy, we want to continue investing in the professional training of our collaborators, seeking alliances to train and certify people in new skills, making them easily transferable, so that people can continue their professional development wherever they are.

Finally, we believe that access to information about our business is essential to build trust with our stakeholders, which is why we commit to regularly disclosing relevant information about how we conduct our business and other aspects of our sustainability performance.

Our second pillar focuses on the successful development of our communities

We focus on leaving a positive legacy wherever we operate. We do this through a sustainable economic development approach at the local and national level; looking for more comprehensive ways to contribute to society; expanding our strategic partnerships with non-governmental organizations and federal, state and municipal governments.

We show leadership and innovation in fulfilling this purpose as we continue to collaborate with stakeholders to create shared value in our activities.

Integrating our communities as a strategic pillar within our Sustainability Strategy, we seek to create a culture of social impact, working to minimize the negative impact of our operations and identifying business opportunities that allow us to fulfill our commitment to impulse sustainable economic development while improving the life and future of our communities.

Our social initiatives aim to create sustainable communities that are more inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable, contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations Global Compact and reinforcing our commitment to building a better future.

With the signing of the Global Compact in 2020, we began to review our approach to communities and their economic development. We want to focus on developing proactive relationships with our communities that allow us to execute actions based on their needs.

The third pillar is focused on our commitment to the planet

With the signing of the UN Global Compact, we recognize that climate change is a reality and is making a negative impact on the planet, our communities and our business. We support the commitments of the Paris Agreement and the long-term goal of limiting the increase in global average temperature to below 2°C.

We are committed to reducing the environmental impact of our activities, maintaining a focus on continuous improvement and innovation in favor of environmental challenges, as well as reducing Protexa’s carbon footprint.

With the launch of our 2030 Sustainability Strategy, the company begins its path in the fight against climate change, advancing towards the decarbonization of its activities in the 4 divisions. In 2020, we began by defining the strategic objectives and 2030 goals for each of the divisions, which in line with their respective implementation plans, will allow us to advance in reaching our goals.

Also, we complement our Sustainability Strategy with projects to offset those emissions that we are not able to avoid, through reforestation programs and emphasizing the development of green areas in our sustainable urban construction projects.

We are aware that water is a limited and non-renewable natural resource. Since 2010, we have invested in minimizing the consumption of drinking water in our operations with the installation of water treatment plants that allow us to consume up to 98% recycled water.

The fourth pillar is based on our commitment to society through the creation of shared values.

We contribute to economic development through the products we manufacture, the projects we develop, the services we offer, the local jobs we generate and the innovations we bring to the market, all aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

In line with our practices for project development, we want to fulfill the current needs for housing, work environments and infrastructure in a sustainable way. We believe that sustainable construction is a clear example of responding innovatively and sustainably to the growing demand for building spaces.

With our design and project planning processes in the Real Estate division, we evaluate the performance of materials at all their scales and during all their use cycles; We promote the use of renewable energy resources, we promote energy efficiency in our projects, as well as responsible use of water and efficient materials in construction, operation and maintenance processes.

Through our projects, we contribute to the community by offering innovative, energy-efficient spaces and improving the environment where we live.

We comply with the highest ethical standards in commercial and industrial practices in all phases of our projects; We promote sustainable living and working environments, implementing occupational health and safety regulations in all our operations, as a way to contribute to the sustainable economic development of Mexico.

The inclusive development of our supply chain is a key component to the success of our business. We want to focus on promoting efficiency, quality, sustainability, transparency, respect for human rights, non-discrimination and equal opportunities with our suppliers (manufacturers and distributors) and subcontractors.
